NEW BEGINNINGS

INTRODUCTION

Every time a person begins a new profession or phase of life, he is faced with the tendency to be overcome by fear, frustration, and exhaustion.  It is easy to get distracted by the many challenges which can present themselves to an individual when he starts anything to which he is not accustomed.  It is good to remember; however, that God never gives a person more than they can handle.

A FEW EXAMPLES

When acquiring a new profession, a man may not be completely familiar with all the aspects of his new job.  It may require days or maybe even weeks for him to be able to comfortably accomplish all the wishes of his employer without feeling frustrated or discouraged.  He may also have to be patience with the older employees, who may not easily trust him, in order to gain their respect and confidence.

When a woman is expecting for the first time, the struggles and trials she faces may scare her neigh to death.  Her normal physical, social and emotional ways of life change, she is easily susceptible to illness, and sometimes the pains of the little body growing within her may seem unbearable.  Many of her favorite foods may become untouchable or make her sick, and she may have to survive on a diet which she would never have considered as a possible.

When a young man or woman embraces the religious life, all of their past must normally be forgotten and they must live only for God and their neighbor.  They adopt a strict schedule and firm rules which they are bound under pain of sin to observe.  No longer are these professed men allowed to spend much time with women nor these avowed women generally permitted to associate with men.  They are also not allowed to claim anything as their own, but must now see all things they use as being on lease to them from God and their community.

When a couple first marry, there is much about each other which usually remains unknown.  Each has their personal habits and imperfections which can cause their spouses to get annoyed with them, and constantly living with a person whom one does not fully understand can easily cause strife.  Many newly-weds often disagree on finances, how they want their house arranged, and how to raise their children.  Sometimes one of the spouses even abandons the Faith and the other spouse has to hang on with all of their strength in order to preserve the souls of himself and his children.

CONCLUSION

The list of possible new beginnings and the struggles that come with them could go on and on.  I think; however, that the point has been made clear enough.  Life is not easy, especially when we have to undertake anything new.

In order to survive the new and difficult undertakings we may face, we should arm ourselves with prayer, courage, and the determination to persevere until the end no matter the pain and suffering we may have to endure along the way.  We must learn to be patient, humble and unselfish.  Many people give up the good fight when they are near achieving victory.  Let us instead place all of our trust in God and have complete Faith that He will assist us until the end of any difficult endeavor.

Faith can move mountains and also calm the pain, anxiety, and feeling of helplessness we may experience in our minds, bodies and souls.  Our Lord frequently gives us a helping hand or a friend when we least expect it.  He arranges details of our lives so that our affairs succeed and so that we have the necessities of life.  He can also make the most unlivable burden an easier weight to bear.  If we sincerely ask for it, He will always give us the strength we need to persevere unto the end and find our salvation.  Let us learn to recognize anything good that happens to us as a gift from God and a reminder that He is always watching over us as long as we try our best to live a virtuous life and believe in Him.  Without the assistance of God hardly anything is achievable; yet, with God’s help anything is possible.

    1. Hi Catherine!

      Thank you!

      How have you been? 😊

These past 3 months have been SO crazy! We didn't know until about 2 months if any of my novus ordo family would come to the wedding. After their bishop gave them a dispensation then we had to prepare for several relatives to stay with us for the wedding which took place on our farm by a great traditional Catholic priest, Father Joseph Collins. His flexibility was really what made the wedding not fall through.

The weekend after our wedding, my youngest brother got married. So, we didn't have a very long honeymoon. Since we needed to be back in time to support the family at the rehearsal dinner.

Less than 2 weeks after that we closed on a house and have been coordinating the rennovations. The house basement flooded the DAY after closing (due to the previous owners not keeping up with proper drainage for the house) and caused about 2 ft. of all the finished walls in the basement to flood. So, even though we got a rennovation loan, the costs exceeded that amount bu several thousand which we will need to pay out of pocket. Thankfully, my parents offered to help us a bit as a wedding gift.

Around this time, I had it confirmed that we are expecting! Less than 2 weeks afte, we went with my family (my parents, most of my siblings, their kids, and an aunt and uncle - 20 of us in total) to Ireland and Scotland for 2 weeks.

For the last few days of the trip morning sickness started to kick in for me and I think I also may have caught a bug at the same time. The flight home was tough and the smell of food made me really sick. After getting home I was pretty much bed-ridden for about a week. Once the flu was gone the morning sickness stuck around and turned into Gerd.

All the while we have been getting ready to move. I have also been training my little brother to take over accounting for the farm and trying to keep on top of household chores. It has definitely been a journey, but I am grateful to my husband, family and friends who have constantly supported me throughout it all.

We plan to move into the new house on Saturday! Please pray all goes well!

And please tell me what is new for you!

      With love and prayers,

      Rita

P.S. Switched my pen-name to "Rita Marita" as I am now techincally a mother since I am expecting and I am no longer a "Señorita". How did you come up with the "Farm Lassie" name?

    2. (Sorry I haven't checked back for so long!!)

I've been fair, been a little run down since this past summer from working so hard. Let it be known that unless I'm working for myself, I'm never working 50 hours a week again (and nor should any woman...it's not good for them!)

GOSH, that does sound crazy! I saw some pictures of your dress on your other blog, it's super pretty!!!
(dear me, did you guys get a lot of rain this summer too?)

WOW CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR LITTLE ONE!!!!!! That is wonderful news!! You MUST keep us posted - I love hearing baby news (even if I'm still single, LOL)

Yick - I deal with GERD symptoms occasionally, so I know how annoying and sickening it is.

I hope the move went well!!!!

I love the new pen name, it suits you well! I chose the Farm Lassie name because I have an agriculture degree (sadly, no farm yet....though I have worked on several) and I have a strong Scottish ancestry, which accounts for the "lassie" part.

      As for what's new...well, let's see:

I'm trying to switch jobs. I'm currently working part time as a milker on a dairy, and to be honest, it's not ideal. So, I'm trying to apply for a couple of full-time agricultural education jobs...

In the meantime, my brothers and I have been keeping up with the house (I completely understand your struggle in that regard!), choir has restarted at church, and I've been blogging a fair bit outside of my home corner. Oh, and I've started journaling a little. Other than that, little has changed since the beginning of summer.

      God bless you!!!

      Catherine

  2. Dear Catherine,

No worries! We all get busy! I know I have been. ;)

We are now unpacked from the move and more settled into the new house. We still need to get a couch, room for baby and some other furnishings, but my sister is letting us borrow a camping cot for now. So, we are using that with a blanket on top and pillows as our temporary cot.

I have been traveling back to the farm occasionally to help my brother with the accounting. (I used to be the assistant manager but have been transferring those duties to him.) We had a friend who recently got married and helped with that a bit. I also just finished making my first ever full dress that requires no shirt with it on Monday (also my first fully homemade maternity dress)! There always seems to be something that needs to be done!

YES! We DID get A LOT of rain this summer! Usually the grass starts to die in July, but we got about 15 inches more rain than normal and people have hardly been able to mow because their yards have been so wet. :P

How neat that you have an agricultural degree! Have you considered working at a nursery, a state arboretum for for the Natural Forrestries? I shall be praying that you find a better job!

How neat that you also are in choir for church! I have been transferring the duty of director to one of the other members in preparation for baby next Spring.

Hope all is well with you and I apologize for the delayed response.

    God bless!

    Rita
